Dear One, have you ever noticed how a toy, a shoe or even a piece of furniture can be in our path when we get up during the night in the darkened house? Doesn’t take much to trip us up; even something as small as a child’s Lego Toy, when stepped on in the dark can cause us to trip and loose our balance.
Think about that a moment. Two things stick out in my own mind; the smallness of the obstacle and the absolute darkness of the house. Can that really relate to Proverbs? I think so. Let’s think about this spiritually. Jesus is the Light. There is no reason for a Christian to stumble around in the dark. That is a bad choice.
Second, let’s think about the smallness of the obstacle. “Small sins” can cause us to stumble badly. A Lego Toy should not be left in the floor. It should be cleared away and put in the toy box with the other toys. A “small sin” should be “cleared away” with confession and not left lying around untended.
When Jesus, who is the Light of the World, illuminates our path He directs the way. We can see it clearly and acknowledge Him thankfully. We can relinquish everything, small or large, to the Director of our life. He will keep the path and the directions clear.
“Father, Help me to acknowledge you in all my ways and to look to You for direction before I go off half-cocked. Forgive me if sometimes I choose to direct my own paths and only wind up in detours away from Your will. Amen”
