To claim or not to claim

“To claim or not to claim”

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you-John 15:7 NIV; He who speaks of nonexistent things that as though they already existed-Romans 4:17 AB

I heard a pastor say that he didn’t need to claim whatever because it already belonged to him. This didn’t sit very well with me. It made me ask myself if we as Christians should really be using the word claim or not.

The word claim as defined by the free dictionary is taking as one’s own and or to state as being true. If we pray to God then ask Him to bless us with whatever while believing in our hearts that we’ve already received it (Mark 11:24 NIV), isn't that essentially laying claim to it just because we believe? Yes, indeed it is! Claiming and believing run along the same lines!

So do I think that we should claim whatever? Yes, I surely do? How we go about claiming whatever is the real question that we need to ask ourselves.
