Psalm 68:4, 7-9 (Amplified Bible)
4Sing to God, sing praises to His name, cast up a highway for Him Who rides through the deserts--His name is the Lord--be in high spirits and glory before Him!
7O God, when You went forth before Your people, when You marched through the wilderness--Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!--
8The earth trembled, the heavens also poured down [rain] at the presence of God; yonder Sinai quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
9You, O God, did send a plentiful rain; You did restore and confirm Your heritage when it languished and was weary.
When we sing praises to God, we are casting up a highway for Him. Our praise--coming out of our mouths---makes a road for God Himself to ride into our barren, desert places.
I don't know about anybody else but I have had some dry, hot, dusty places in my life. The desert is a hard, lonely place to be. It is the place where you realize that your plans are not going to work. It is the place where your dreams crumble, and your self sufficiency fails . You find yourself alone and you realize that you are not enough by yourself.
A pretty thing won't make it any better. A new relationship or position won't make it better. A title or esteem from another person won't make it any better. A vacation or a pleasant circumstance won't fix your desert. A "blessing" will not fix your desert place. Nothing will fix it but God's Presence.
So go ahead and lift up your voice...never be afraid of what somebody else thinks about your praise. If you have a desert place in your life, you don't need someone else's good opinion about you. You need God.
When we praise Him, we invite Him into our lives. We are making a road for Him to invade our circumstance. In verses 7-10, we see what a change is made just by His Presence. He makes the earth tremble and the mountains quake before Him. The heavens, which only moments before were dry and unrelenting, pour rain down because He is present. What a MIGHTY GOD! He changes the landscape of our lives.
God is wanting to pour out some rain on His people. We are His heritage. He sees when we languish and are weary. His plans are so much better than our own. He has things laid up for us to inherit. He just needs a road into our situations. Let the people of God lift up praise to our Lord. Let us make a highway so He can ride in.
