There is fear of the Lord meaning, a ‘deep awe and reverence for the majesty and holiness of God.’ Proverbs 1:7 tells us that, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” The fear of the Lord is what keeps us from contaminating our vessels. Fear of the Lord is therefore, the start of our Christian journey, I believe. “Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.” (Acts 13:26, KJV)
Then there is fear—to be afraid, frightened. This fear is what the enemy uses to trap many babes in Christ. Being a babe in Christ is not threatening to the enemy and his army of demons. However, a mature believer who continues to grow [getting closer to God through prayer and fasting; reading the bible and applying its instructions to their lives—faith in action; constantly praising God] that is a follower of Christ who can do damage to the kingdom of darkness. That’s a believer who is armed with weapons of mass destruction, ready and willing to go into the enemy’s camp and not just take back what he has stolen, but seal the entrance where he once gained access to carry out the operation of robbery. Then help release the prisoners.
So today, if you are a believer who remains a babe in Christ because you are afraid to step out on your faith, today is the day to start growing. Believe and receive the message that God has for you today.
What is the spirit of fear?
Fear often travels with intimidation; the feeling of being less-than; not good enough; not capable; not qualified; not worthy. Soon the spirit of depression joins with his demon friends and our mind becomes crowded so that we cannot think clearly. We cry relentlessly, and doctors label it with different titles such as baby blues, post-natal depression, manic depression, bipolar…to make us even more accepting of this evil spirit. To the body of Christ this is a disease. The cure is not in anti-depressants but by believing the word of God and applying it to one’s life. Knowing that God hath not given us the spirit of fear, we can now denounce it. We can rebuke the spirit of fear from our lives and make room to receive the medication needed. The medication (being revealed through His Word): knowing that God has given us a spirit of “power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
This means that we are more than conquerors. The power of Christ dwells in us as believers, and this power is stronger than any demonic force that may come against us. However, to ignite this power we need to grow and become mature believers. A babe in Christ does not know how to utilize this power so; entering the enemy’s camp unprepared can cause major damage.
A mature Christian understands spiritual warfare; knowing how to ignite that power and be victorious. Romans 8:37 says, “Nay in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us." It is not in our strength, but in the power of the Lord—that is how we overcome. Therefore, when our brother or sister hurts us (lets use the term ‘stabs us in the back’) then the power of Christ within us will ignite The Spirit of Love. Instead of wanting to hurt them or sink into depression (from not knowing how to handle the situation) ‘love’ will cause us to recognise the demonic spirits at work, rebuke it and be able to give our brother or sister a hug, even while hurting and pronounce a blessing in their lives. We will then go to the Great Physician who will perform surgery (removing the knife from our backs) and the Spirit of Love will allow us to say, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do"
Becoming a mature believer is the key to understanding His message, in accepting that He has given us the spirit of a ‘sound mind.’ This relates well with Romans 8:37, “Nay in all these things we are more than conquerors"
All that we have been through which the enemy meant for evil, God will turn it around for our good. Yet not for our glory but that, He might be glorified and He can draw others to Him. All that we are currently going through is for our good and so that we will continually have a praise on our lips for God. It means that all the hurt and the pain we have had to endure (or will ever feel in our lifetime) is not stronger than the power of Christ within us. The power of Christ within us will help us to rise above the ashes of our past. His power will help us to move into the greatness that God has planned for us.
You may have endured major hardships and it seems there is no breakthrough. You just keep going from one trial to the next without a break. This seems to have been the pattern in my life but what I understand from it is that as children of God—totally committed to His way, we are covered. Therefore, regardless of what has gone on in our lives or what is to come (including the major storms of life) we will not lose our minds because through all of this happening, God will make it work for our good and for His glory. Therefore, we are victorious through Christ and no matter what things may come our way, God’s grace is sufficient for us. Having this knowledge, I know that I will not lose my mind because God has given me a sound mind and I will be victorious. This I declare in the name of Jesus Christ as I speak LIFE into every dead situation in my life. I pray that you will do the same.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear,
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
-2nd Timothy 1:7-
In order to embrace this message in its entirety, we have to first analyse the first part of the verse. If God did not give us the spirit of fear then where did we get it? I can hear you saying, ‘…from the enemy.’ Well, yes! You are right in your thinking. We got it from the one who opposes the ministry of Christ. We borrowed it from the enemy’s camp but it’s time to return his goods and reclaim what is rightfully ours.
Satan does not want God’s Kingdom to grow, so he uses the spirit of fear as a distraction, putting doubt in our minds, feeding us all things negative until we stop believing in the power of the words within this scripture.
Now that we know that we are more than conquerors, having the power of Christ in us, we can use the weapons God has given us to protect us from the enemy’s darts. God gave us the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. I encourage you to use it. We have the key to all the riches of the Kingdom—let us use it. We have the power to bind up all evil spirits and to loose the Spirit of Truth in our lives and those around us (see Matthew 18:18). God has equipped us for this battle so; let us not forget to put on the armour of God; to stand on the Word of God; to pray without ceasing and fast when necessary. Put on the robe of righteousness and let the fruit of the spirit be ignited—Love covers all. Love never fails. God is Love.
[This doesn’t mean that medical intervention is wrong. God gave the doctors this gift to help. However, this only provides a temporary relief so one can stay in control of one’s emotion in order to get to the root of the problem].
Praise our Holy God for the Truth He has poured into your heart to overflowing that you may share its comforting and healing properties with those who struggle against the enemy of our souls. (I guess that would be all of us!) Thanks, Janice :) Keep hearing and sharing.
