Not Guilty, The Lord Said

Not Guilty, The Lord Said

I stood alone at the defendant’s table,
with my head hanging low, in shame.
Silently I listened to the many charges,
that were listed underneath my name.

"I present to you this law breaker here,"
my accuser began, in a snarling voice.
"Declare her guilty, then condemn her,
because there can be no other choice."

He presented his evidence against me,
each act of sinfulness I had ever done.
Charges of lying, stealing and cursing,
a picture of indecency he cleverly spun.

He told of acts, of deceit and cheating,
of trips to places I shouldn’t have been.
His words echoing, in that court room,
as he recited, my undeniable acts of sin.

He mentioned the years that I’d wasted,
ignoring life’s chances, and life’s brevity.
Fulfilling desires, and worldly pleasures,
forgoing any thoughts of accountability.

I felt my head sinking lower and lower,
as satan read, from his well grafted list.
Condemnation swirled inside my heart,
there seemed to be nothing, he missed.

"That’s enough!" the judge stated loudly,
"those charges, have already dismissed."
"Dismissed? they can’t be wiped away,
she is still guilty I tell you," satan hissed.

"She was guilty, but now she is cleared,"
the judge said, speaking kindly of me.
"And you, Lucifer, have just forgotten,
the reason I came to die upon Calvary."

"All of my children, have fallen to sin,
and because they’re human, I forgive.
I shed my own blood to cleanse them,
to give them a chance…. to feely live."

Wow! What a great poem! I'm so glad we are not guilty through the blood of the Lamb.

Very good, Bessie. Aren't we glad that our accuser isn't as powerful as our Redeeemer, and advocate. You poem, although very different, reminded me of one I wrote on the same topic...I called it For The Record...Thanks for sharing your talent...Helen
