Today is the good old times

Mom was a magnet to young people, I often told her she would be great in youth ministry. My sister Cozette brought some young people to mom’s apartment and that’s where she met, Ken, Beth, Mark and Nicole. These folks are just some that saw her as their Mother figure. Nicole took an instant liking to mom.
Nicole had a child out of wedlock as a teen, and as a result her mother rejected her. Nicole asked mom if she could call her mom, mom told her yes. Each time Nicole phoned, she addressed mom as her mom “Is mom there”? Nicole would ask. Nicole enjoyed calling her mom, it made her feel accepted and loved. It seemed to fill a need in her life. The friendship went on for years, until the day mom fell ill and was no longer able to communicate with Nicole. Nicole was upset, when mom got ill and was unable to speak to her anymore, I guess she felt a loss in her life that mom had helped fill. Mom loved and cared for others, often ahead of herself. This reminds me of the Good Samaritan.
You know the story of the poor fellow that was robbed and left to the side of the road, wounded. Two men passed by and did not help him, but when the Samaritan came that way, he had compassion on the man and spent his own money to care for the wounded man and put him up at the Inn. What love and compassion this Samaritan showed for him. Jesus said to love one another. Love often means sacrifice and work. Love is action. Mom always told me,” actions speak louder than words”. What a true statement that is.
Often times, we put off serving others, and suddenly they are gone one day, and we look back at the good times we shared with that person and comment that those were the good old days when they were here, but every day can be the good old days. I always like to tell people how much they mean to me right now, rather than have regrets later, when they are gone.
James 4:13-14-Go to now, ye that say, to day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell and get gain, whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time and then vanisheth away.
Psalm 144:4- Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.
Application: Do you ever feel that the good old days are behind you? I do sometimes, and I bet most people feel that way at times. What can you say or do to love and serve others today that you can look back on someday with fond memories and comment,” those were the good old days"?
Prayer: Lord help me to remember that today is all I really have, there is no promise of tomorrow for anyone, help and show me to love and serve others in action like the good Samaritan did and like mom did with Nicole, In Jesus name amen,
