And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth (Luke 12:15).
Monroe, my husband’s brother, moved my things to Montrose, Colorado after my beloved departed this life. I grew up in Montrose. My aged parents lived here. I moved to help care for them.
Monroe could not crowd everything I owned into his van. He disposed of things for which he lacked room to bring. He looked for the file of my important papers and did not find it. I succeeded in replacing most of these. However, I found it hard to adjust to the loss of them, especially my irreplaceable marriage certificate.
God had started a weaning process earlier in my life when my family moved to Dallas, Texas. We left many things in storage. Years later we recovered most of our possessions.
In all of this He taught me not to grasp onto things, but to look to Him. My life consists not in things, but in the true and living God.
Dear Lord, Help me look unto Thee, and not be reaching out for more and more. Thou art all I need. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
