I Kings 17:1 “And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, “As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before Whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.” (KJV)
Elijah (Strong’s 452) God of Jehovah; (from Strong’s 410) from Strong’s 410) strength, mighty, esp. Almighty (but used also of any deity); God, (god), goodly, great, idol, mighty one, power, strong; and (from Strong’s 3050) Jah, the sacred name: the Lord, most vehement.
Tishbite (Strong’s 8664) recourse; a Tishbite or inhab. Of Tishbeh (in Gilead).
Elijah, meaning God of Jehovah who is a Tishbite, meaning recourse, or source of help.
Who is our Source of help, none Other than dear God, Himself! Let’s continue here in:
I Kings 17:2 “And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,” (KJV)
I Kings 17:3 “Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hid thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.” (KJV)
Brook (Strong’s 5158) a stream, espec. A winter torrent; a (narrow) valley (in which a brook runs); a also a shaft of a mine; (from Strong’s 5157) to inherit or to occupy; to bequeath, or distribute, instate.
Cherith (Strong’s 3747) a cut; Kerith, a book of Palestine; (from Strong’s 3772) to cut (off, down or asunder) by impl. To destroy or consume; spec to covenant (i.e. make an alliance or bargain, orig. by cutting flesh and passing between the pieces).
God came directly to Elijah saying to get out quickly, giving Elijah direction and the exact location, which is the brook, also meaning a valley or to inherit or occupy. Cherith, which means to break or to make an alliance or bargain. So God told Elijah to wait in the brook or place of inheritance named covenant. Remember God’s promises to you. There is always a condition, just as He is showing us here with Elijah. I Elijah does the will of God and listens, God will promise and keep His covenant. Let’s continue here in:
I Kings 17:4 “And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.” (KJV)
God is in control and knows His Plan, so listen to Him, through His Word. Not only does God give Elijah the promise of the location, but how God will sustain Elijah through this time of hiding. Keep God over you, always being in His Will, and He will keep you covered and protected. Let’s go on now:
I Kings 17:5 “So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook, Cherith, that is before Jordan.” (KJV)
I Kings 17:6 “And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.” (KJV)
Bread (Strong’s 3899) food (for man or beast); espec. bread or grain (for making it); (from Strong’s 3898) to feed on; fig. to consume, by impl. to battle (as destruction); devour eat, fight, overcome, prevail, make war.
flesh (Strong’s 1320) flesh (from its freshness); by extens. Body; also (by eupem.) the pudenda of a man; (from Strong’s 1319) to be fresh, i.e. full (rosy, fig. cheerful); to announce (glad news); messenger, preach, publish, good tidings.
So God provided Elijah exactly as He had promised him that He would take care of him, protect him, feed, notice both and night, and provide him drink. Look at this even deeper – God will provide IF that’s the condition, if we do His Will and listen to His Words. For He is that Bread of Life here in:
John 6:35 “And Jesus said unto them, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst.” (KJV)
He is the Bread of life that you can nourish with daily in His Word. He is that Living Water here in:
John 6:37 “In the last day, th
at great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, “If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink.” (KJV)
John 6:38 “He that believeth on Me, as the scripture that said, out of His belly shall flow rivers of living water.” (KJV)
He is quoting here in:
Isaiah 58:11 “And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.” (KJV)
By believing on Him, Jesus the Christ, or
the Anointed One in the Greek, you will never thirst or go hungry because He will feed you and provide for you in every way possible. After all that is His Promise to us here in:
Matthew 10:29 “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.” (KJV)
Matthew 10:30 “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (KJV)
God loves and knows every detail of your life, your thoughts and He is with you. Stay with Him and He will be there protecting you and covering you, just like here as His promise to Elijah. You don’t need to worry about how you’ll make it through – even if it is a valley or low place that He may have you at in your life. He will care for you. HE protects you beautifully here in:
Deuteronomy 32:10 “He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; He led him about, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.” (KJV)
The subject here is God’s People and this Chapter, Deuteronomy 32, the Song of Moses. He not only took them through that desert with no water or food, but lead them, gave them His Word to live by and kept them as the apple – you know what that means? That is the iris of His Eye. You know how fast you blink when something gets in there, a piece of dust, for example. Dust in and then blink! That’s how fast dear God comes to you and protects you remember IF, that is you are In His Will and doing and living His Word. So keep with Him in the Word and be close to Him. There is nothing better to be standing on Him, that Rock, that is solid as here in:
Deuteronomy 32:4 “He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: A GOD of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.” (KJV)
Stand on the Rock, which is Christ, and be made more perfect, or mature, in HE, Who is, perfect.
