Can a Man be Rich with just 5 cents?
One cent
When I held my first child moments after his birth
Touched my lips to his forehead, what I felt was a first.
This new babe in my hands, gave more meaning to life,
A God given gift, birthed from love for my wife.
I remember my rosebud, such a wee little thing
Rosy cheeks, button nose, oh! What joy she did bring.
The first time her tiny hand, took hold of my finger,
My heart skipped a beat and the tears seemed to linger.
Two cents
As my eyes first gazed upon the girl I would marry
I suddenly realized that I couldn’t stop starring.
I will never forget what a vision of beauty,
I beheld, as down the aisle, she came slowly to me.
Oranges and purples, crimson and gold, just a hint of yellow,
Every stroke of God’s brush, paints a sunset, pure and mellow.
Come springtime, then summer, nature’s bounty on display,
All the colors of the rainbow rejoice and blossom each new day.
Three cents
The sound of children’s laughter, echo as they play,
A symphony of melodious praise, can keep the doldrums at bay.
Just three words from the lips, of the ones we need most,
When they whisper, I love you, as they cuddle up close.
Such sweet music to ones ears, when sincerely spoken,
Can you forgive me, I’m so sorry, to a heart that’s been broken.
She sits on my lap, stares into my face, what is one to do?
Only three, when she says, Papa when I grow up, I’m gonna’ marry you!
Four cents
The smell of homemade bread, fresh from the oven, buttered and ready to eat,
Hot apple pie, some freshly popped popcorn, cinnamon toast, what a treat.
Mama’s spaghetti sauce, simmering on the stovetop, my nostrils open wide,
The smell of early morning coffee, bacon and eggs, with hash browns on the side.
Sheets on the bed, just retrieved from the clothesline, smell so fresh and clean.
A newborn baby just bathed and powdered, a bouquet of lilacs just gleaned,
The burning of leaves, when autumn has come, steaks being cooked on the grill,
All of these things captivate and arouse us. For our noses it’s truly a thrill!
Five cents
A ripe red tomato just picked from the vine, it’s juices drip off of my chin,
Or corn-on-the-cob, smothered in butter, these both leave my face with a grin.
Country fried chicken, coleslaw and fries, like only the Colonel can make,
Then a cold glass of milk with pie alamode, yes this kind of meal is so great.
Pizza and pasta, tuna and salmon, whole wheat or rye take your pick.
Sweet rolls and cream puffs, chocolate or vanilla, taffy that’s gooey and thick,
What ever you choose, since our taste buds do differ, on one point we all can agree
The selection’s unending, but of this I’m quite certain, most people, do love to eat!
***************************
The good Lord gave to each man a priceless treasure, something that money can’t buy,
Whether wealthy or poor, matters not for this gift, you can’t earn it, so don’t even try.
Each one has been given five Senses, touch, sight, smell, taste, and to hear,
Which one would you trade for a fortune that tomorrow could all disappear?
If you were to ask the armless or lame man; the blind, the deaf, or the mute,
Would they rather have gold or their senses, what do think they would choose?
So the next time your feeling like a pauper, remember just what you possess,
Yes you can be rich with just Five cents, if you have all five you are blessed!
