A crowd armed with swords and clubs were sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders to arrest Jesus. The Bible says that these people the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put Him to death, but they did not find any. When they failed to get anything to convict Him with they started to testify falsely against Him, but as you would expect, their hurriedly conjured statements did not agree.
It is very difficult to be consistent with fabricated stories even if the conjurers had all the time to rehearse them.
What is impressive in this story is the fact that the Lord’s accusers were looking for evidence (read: fault) to use against Him but they never found any. Why Jesus’ life is impressive is the fact that however perfect one is, if someone is bent on finding fault he will surely get one. Jesus’ life is so clean that not even a magnifying device could get a fault on Him. At one time, even Pilate had to testify: “I find no fault in this Man” (Lk. 23:4).
The Bible also records that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).
The bottom line: Jesus was so perfect that not even fault-finding experts could find anything genuine to accuse Him of.
He is my Lord; my standard.
