On Feb 12 2010, while in Auckland (North Island of NZ) writing an email to a friend in Australia, I received a text on my mobile phone at 10.10am. I read it: "I'm on my way J. Be there in 5 minutes. Leon."
I don't know any 'Leons' in New Zealand so I knew it was a wrong number. I was about to ignore it but then here was an unexpected opportunity to share Jesus.
My text reply: "Wrong number, Leon. Don't know J but Jesus loves you. Have a good day."
Leon replied by text a few minutes later: "I know my God's love is beyond human understanding. Who is this?"
My reply by text: "Murray. You texted me by mistake. Perhaps it was the Lord arranging it."
Then his text reply: "What's your email address?" I gave it to him immediately.
Who would Leon be? A believer to encourage? Or someone who needed to know more about Jesus? I prayed for Leon and asked the Lord to bless him and also J that He would speak into their lives today.
At 10.53am, I received Leon's first email: "Hi Murray. I believe this is God that set this up. Where are you in NZ ? What do you do for a living ? I'm sure you can see where I work and what I do. (Christchurch, South Island). God is just so faithful when you need him. Kind regards. Leon."
I replied with words of encouragement and about myself. He replied with a great need in his life (without stating what it was.) I replied sharing briefly about how the Lord had got me through my deepest wound in recent years.
Leon emailed again to say that my story was his story too, and he really would like to talk to me, and thanked me for following up the original text. Over the next few days we wrote several times and have written since and the Lord has brought healing to his life in the meantime. I hope to visit him in October 2010 when I do some ministry in Christchurch.
So now I have a new friend about 2000kms from where I live, all because of a wrong text! Praise the Lord.
