I knew two people with a bright future. Their treasures made a big difference.
S___ built up a good practice as an optician. His wife smiled as they moved into their own house. The children danced with glee.
He went to a dinner party where the hostess served liquor. S___ became a drunkard. His wife and children left him. The bill collectors claimed his house. Strong drink claimed his liver, his life and his soul. Where were all his treasures?
Clara gave her life as a missionary. She ministered to little children and many came to Christ. With failing eyesight she began a telephone ministry. Some came to Christ via the telephone. An ultra soprano she sang for Jesus.
When she lost her ability to sing, she still loved the Bible on tapes. She enjoyed listening to her favorite programs on Christian radio. She spent much time on her knees. Now she has gone to be with Jesus.
Clara did many good deeds, but her righteousness was in Christ Jesus. That redeemed her from spiritual death. All that she did for her Saviour will last. Unlike S___ she laid up treasures in Heaven.
Where are my treasures? It all depends upon what I set my heart.
Dear Lord, May I lay up treasures up above and not on this earth. In Jesus' name. Amen.
