3/28/10 Palm Sunday Pastor Alex’s sermon: The Crucifixion Matt 27:45-46, Mark 10:18, Rom 8:31, Hebrews 13:5
Jesus cried out to God asking why had God forsaken him? Matt 27:46 Jesus had been silent until this moment on the cross. He had said nothing while they beat, spat on and tied him up to smack his face before they put him on the cross. He was beat so bad that he was unidentifiable, couldn’t be recognized because of his flesh being pulled off him. Jesus stayed silent while they nailed him to the cross by his hands and feet.
It was only when God removed his presence from Jesus that Jesus cried out “ my God why have you forsaken me?” When things go bad, its easier for us not to call on God or depend on Him. When things go bad, we sometimes think God has left us and its hard to follow God. We are lost, feel lost and think lost thoughts. We think God has forgotten us, forsaken us and has left us. It was painful for God to see Jesus go thru pain and not understand why. Its painful for God to see us go thru pain and not understand why. Parents feel pain when they see their children go thru pain and not understand why.
We Should Have The Confidence in That:
1) God is Good: Mark 10:18 No one is good except God alone
2) God is For Me: Romans 8:31 God is for us, no one can defeat us. God is for everybody that names the name of Jesus! Its hard for us to believe this when we are going thru hard times. We must remember God is for Me! No matter what life is dishing out, God is on our side God is for Us! God has a plan for us!
3) God is With Us: Hebrews 13:5 God will never leave us and never abandon us. Jesus said He will be with us even unto the end of the age. The more we understand God, the less we will ask God Why and the more we will ask God What? What is He trying to teach us? What does He want us to learn from the situation? II Corinthians 5:21 God made Jesus to become sin for us. Jesus became sin and God had to leave him for a bit. This was so that God could look at us later being covered by the blood of Jesus. Jesus took on the sin of the world so we can have a relationship with God forever! We can have a relationship with God to the end of the ages and for Eternity!
