The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:1-3;
Ashes represent a state of total ruin and complete destruction; it is the worst state of devastation and desolation a man can find himself. If a building collapses, there is still possibility of restoring it to its former condition, but if the structure has been completely reduced to ashes, all hope of salvaging or raising such building is completely lost. This was the situation David and his men found themselves according to the book of 1Samuel 30: 1. David had been away with his men for three days, only to return to find their city completely empty and reduced to ashes following invasion by the enemies. Instead of the usual bleating of sheep and expected warm reception by family members, David and his men were welcome by shocking sight of an empty city, a heap of ashes! The situation was so devastating that he and the six hundred men wept uncontrollably until there was no more energy in them to weep. The men became grossly embittered as they all mourned for their wives, children and properties which had been taken captive by the Amalekites and wondered where they would begin from. The anguish was so much that they thought of stoning David to death. The situation was really pathetic!
In the state of total hopelessness David and his men found themselves, it is obvious that nothing but Godís divine intervention could bring about restoration of all that had been lost. David having wept to a state of exhaustion without solution came to this realization and passionately sought the face of God for divine intervention. Even though the situation appeared irredeemable, but when God stepped in, the mourning of David and his men turned into dancing; their sorrow was translated to singing; their grief was exchanged for celebration; victory replaced defeat and beauty replaced ashes. God did not just stop at restoring all that David and his men lost to the Amalekites, but also gave them much more than they lost to the extent that the city that was once a heap of ashes became centre of attraction and envy of all nations around.
The Almighty God is still in business of giving His people beauty for ashes. From the prophetic declarations of Prophet Isaiah about the Messiah Ė the Anointed One, one of the clear mandates of heaven upon the Lord Jesus Christ, is to give beauty for ashes. For those whose lives have been reduced to ashes and heap of ruins by the challenges and troubles of life, the Lord is set to bring restoration and replace ashes with beauty. One of the things that will happen to you when God gives you beauty for ashes is that your life will become a centre of attraction. When the beauty of God is upon a man, his life will become admirable to the extent that it will be impossible for people to ignore him. As beauty appeals to the eyes of all men, so also will your life become centre of attraction when God gives beauty for your ashes, no one sees a beautiful thing and hiss.
Another thing that will happen when God gives you beauty for ashes is that your life will attract favour. Esther inspite of her disadvantaged background stood out of all the young women in Shusan and rose to become the Queen in the place of Vashti. Godís favour was upon her life and this made her stand out of the crowd. When God replaces your ashes with beauty, you will be distinguished, honoured and exalted. This is because God will surround your life with a divine aura that will always compel men to favour you.
Your life may indeed look like heap of ashes presently, but the LORD God Almighty is set to give you beauty for ashes. I hear the Lord saying to someone who has been mourning all these years that your sorrow has come to the end; I sense the Lord proclaiming to someone held down by shackles that the year of jubilee is here. Just as David encouraged himself in the Lord, wiped his face and passionately sought the face of God for divine intervention, reach out to the Lord in faith, the Anointed One is ready to intervene in the matter of your life. Shake yourself out of the dust of shame and receive garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. This is your season of manifestation. Amen.
