I wish granddaughter with golden hair,
that when you were born I could have been there,
to hold you close and hug your cheek,
open your blanket and take a peek,
at your tiny fingers and teensy toes,
and plant a kiss on your shiny nose.
I wish granddaughter with glowing face,
friendly manner and busy pace,
I could watch you sing and dance and cheer,
travel to games far and near,
join in your laughter and dry your tears.
What fun it would be to shop till we drop,
then share a bowl at the ice cream shop,
checking our packages large and small,
oooing and aahhing over them all.
I am content to know you are mine,
a granddaughter growing true and fine,
loving and laughing and having such fun,
telling the world that you are the one!
You've grown brave and strong in young womanhood,
ready to meet the world as you should,
happily going about your days,
praising the Lord in all your ways.
I wish for your future a long healthy life,
absent of grief and sorrow and strife.
But if these should come in packages small,
Remember, Jesus and Grandma are there through it all!
Happy Sweet 16 Katie Brooke!
