Knock on Wood

Are you superstitious? Do you keep a rabbit’s foot, horse-shoe or four leaf clovers close at hand? Many who think such items are foolishness observe the custom of knocking on wood. Have you ever thought about what that means? It might surprise you.

It is reported that the source is found in Great Britain’s history. The Druids worshiped trees, believing spirits lived inside. When they wanted to avert bad circumstances or desired good things to happen, they knocked on the tree to wake up the spirits. The true God never slumbers and knows our needs before we even voice them. “The Lord is your protector, and he won’t go to sleep or let you stumble (Psalm 121:3 CEV).”

Before knocking on wood became the rage some people foolishly trusted the touching of iron to prevent trouble. Maybe that began the iron-age… Begin a new trend. Put your life in the hands of God alone. He is the creator of all of the trees, rabbits, clover, and metals. We need no go between.
