"Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:...let us keep the feast, not ...with...leaven of...wickedness; but with...unleavened bread of...truth" (1 Cor. 5:7-8).
Once I mixed up some bread dough and could not fire up the oven. My bread kept rising and rising. The yeast leavened the whole dough.
What can I do? I thought. I will put it in the freezer. That will slow it down.
The landlady has an oven, I reasoned. She will not mind baking it for me if she is not using her oven.
"My oven doesn't work," I said. "I mixed up some bread. Can I use your oven?"
"Sure," she said. I baked my bread and gave her a loaf.
Leaven in the Bible is a type of sin. The Bible says we have a sinful nature, the old leaven. When one commits a crime, he breaks God's law and man's law.
The Jews observed the Passover Feast with unleavened bread. Christ became our Passover when He died for our sins. We can become new lumps in Christ. He wants to cleanse us from that old leaven of sin.
Let us come to Christ daily for cleansing that we may be a new lump. Let us serve Him in newness of life.
Dear Lord, Help me purge out the old leaven of sin and make me a new lump in Christ. In Jesus' name. Amen.
