3/7/10 Pastor Alexís Sunday Sermon: The Coming of the Holy Spirit John 14:16-17, John 16:13, 8, 7 Acts 7:51, Acts 19:1-3, Isaiah 30:21
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit came on Kings and prophets for a season, a period of time to get something done. Then the Holy Spirit would leave them. Acts 2:1-3 The day of Pentecost had come and the Lord poured out his spirit on the disciples and the believers. The spirit sounded like a rushing wind. Just sounded like it. The spirit looked like fire was over each oneís head. Just looked like it. They were all filled with the Spirit and began to speak in different languages .The Holy Spirit gave them the utterance.
Who is the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit?
The Father: The Architect -the designer, the creator of all.
The Son: The Contractor-activates the plan. At the cross it was like a permit was given from the city to do Godís work in our life.
The Holy Sprit: The Foreman who carries out the plan. We have to understand the Holy Ghost or we just have a contract and a permit with no building.
Jesus went back to heaven and left the Holy Ghost, the foreman, behind to guide us in Godís plan for our life. The Holy Spirit wants to glorify the Son of God to us. John 14:17 Jesus said the Holy Spirit is our comforter and will help us , counsel us. John 16:13 The spirit will guide us into all truth. John 16:8 The Holy Ghost will CONVICT US of our sins. John 14:16-17 The spirit will let us know what is wrong.
Is the Holy Sprit for Me??
1) The Unaware Camp: Acts 19:1-3 Some Christians are just unaware of the Holy Ghost even though they are saved. The spirit will touch us and deliver us from depression and backsliding.
2) The Resistant Camp: Acts 7:51 Some of us resist the Holy Ghost because we see too much TV with people barking like dogs while saying itís the spirit. We are scared of that and scared of losing control. We resist the true workings of the Holy Spirit. If we name the name of Jesus, we are a legally adopted child of God and the devil wants to kill, steal and destroy us. The Holy Ghost wants to protect, lead and guide us. Act 7:51 Its our human nature to resist the Holy Spirit because people are stiff necked, hard headed folk. We have always been resisting the Holy Spirit that loves us and leads us to the right way.
3) The Mocking Camp: John 16:7 Some laugh/mock at the Holy Spirit. We need to not mock but instead welcome the Holy Ghost into our lives. Many people feel vulnerable by just raising their hands to surrender to God in church. We need to do this to God and to the Holy Spirit. We need to let the Holy Spirit be the foreman in our lives.
