Devotionals
How do you describe love? It is much easier to tell who and what we love, than to explain love itself. Our lists that might go something like this:
List #1: God, spouse or sweetheart, parents, grand parents, children and grandchildren, siblings and extended family
List#2: Our nation, close friends and family pets
List#3: Favorite foods, books, TV shows, films, entertainers, sports and games
Favorites vary, but we repeatedly express our love for people, places, and inanimate objects. My Grandma Ford corrected me when I talked about loving things. She wisely knew we are not to love the temporary items of the world.
There are different forms of love for God and people. The most needed is the type of love God has for us. It is a sacrificial love. It cost Him the life of His Son. Jesus became a willing sacrifice for sinners on Calvary. “No one takes my life from me. I give it up willingly! I have the power to give it up and the power to receive it back again, just as my Father commanded me to do (John 10:18 CEV).” We need to do regular open-book tests. Open the Bible and see how well you do in the sacrificial love category.
