If you are sick and tired of having no peace and sick of being stressed out all the time, then read this article.
I speak from experience in trusting God, and in so doing, I can tell you that you can learn to trust Him to the point where you won't sweat out your next bill...or the next FEAR that Satan hurls your way. Peace is attainable. A stress-free life is attainable...but you first have to want it.
1 Peter 1:5-6 tells us, “You who, through faith, are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.”
God told us that we will go through “trials” also known as “times of testing” during our lives. These times of testing that God puts us through are solely for our benefit.
Trials brings strength to us. They bring endurance and patience…two attributes that many of us lack. Testing periods also get us to the necessary point in our lives of TRUSTING GOD 100%….not 90%….100%.
Satan WILL cause us to experience FEAR. He causes things to happen in our lives to distract us from serving God. FEAR causes us to doubt God. It causes us to lose our confidence in God.
In 2 Kings, 18:19, Satan, through one of his human ambassadors, was taunting King Hezekiah so that he would open the gates of the city to allow the enemy to come in. Hezekiah refused. Satan’s man said to him, “The king of Assyria, says: On what are you basing this confidence of yours?” Hezekiah was not defeated because his confidence was totally in his God…as ours needs to be to withstand the wiles of the devil.
In 1 Peter 4:12 we are told to expect tests.
“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you.”
Trials or tests from God are there because God wants to personally use us to further His kingdom. God needs to TEST US before He can TRUST US.
God will never test you beyond your capabilities. He knows how much you can handle, but He does want to test your mettle to see if you really want to be stress-free and if you really desire to have a peace-filled life.
God wants to know if you really want to see what His plan and purpose for your life is, rather than have you always wonder what it would have been like to experience HIS PLAN...instead of yours.
Here is God's promise about the tests He has us go through: 1 Corinthians 10:13 -"No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through it."
Who would have the BEST PLAN for your life - God or you?
I don't care if it is the best plan for your love relationships...your job...your family life....there are two plans at work always...YOURS...or God's. He won't let you do both.
The test goes the other way, too. Once God knows He can TRUST US, He then demonstrates that we can TRUST HIM to help us get through each and every test.
He is there to help us to understand FEAR, and that Satan is the one who sends it our way to distract us from the job before us.
Once we let go and totally TRUST GOD, then every time FEAR is placed before us we should be able to finally accept where it comes from and just ask our Heavenly Father to help us get through it.
God tested Israel for forty years! He tells us that He tested them and WHY.
From that incident, we can gather that He will test us…and we will know the WHY of our trials from history.
Deuteronomy 8:2-3 –“And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, TO HUMBLE YOU (remove your pride) and TEST YOU - TO KNOW WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART, whether you would keep His commandments or not. 3-So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.”
God tested Israel. They flunked. We don't have to!
Their next generation, under the guidance of Joshua, made it into the Promised Land because that generation decided to TRUST GOD.
God fed their fathers “manna” which means “what is it?”. He allowed them to have it each day as it fell from heaven.
God wants US to know that He will take care of our DAILY BREAD NEEDS also.
Half of our stress comes from worry. Worrying about TOMORROW is where we go wrong, and where stress comes from.
God tested Israel to see if they would worry about being fed in the future….just as He tests us to see if we will worry about things past midnight tonight.
I have finally learned to trust God for my daily bread for TODAY ONLY. Tomorrow is another day and God will meet those needs as well…just as He did with Israel.
Our lessons from the “wilderness experience” must be that God wants us to TRUST HIM…for everything.
If we fail to TRUST HIM, we will NEVER KNOW WHAT OUR POTENTIAL WITH GOD IS.
I say this from personal experience having been on both sides of the equation. For most of my life, I trusted in MY ability to get myself out of a jam. In December of 2007, I asked God to show me His plan. Since then, he has thrown every conceivable "jam" at me! I hated it then....now, I am so glad He did it!
Now, I have learned to TRUST GOD to the point that whenever Satan throws a FEAR my way, I laugh it off. I laugh it off because it is expected, and I have seen God let me go into the FEAR situation….and I come right back out of it unscathed.
I laugh it off because God told me (and YOU), "I have not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." Good enough for me. I trust that God's words are true and accurate.
This is exactly the way it happened to Daniel who was cast into the lion’s den…or Shadrack Meshack and Abednego who were thrown into the furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar. In both cases, they had to go THROUGH the FEAR part, but their confidence was bolstered when they saw God protect them from each event that Satan put in front of them designed to destroy them.
God TESTED Abraham – the father of all Jews and Arabs. Genesis 22:1 –“Now it came to pass after these things that God TESTED Abraham. 2- And He said, take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering.”
Most of us know that God told Abraham and Sarah they would have a son - at the age of about 90 years old. God promised that Abraham's son would be part of a nation that would extend out into time with as many [people as there are stars in the sky.
God TESTED Abraham…and Abraham passed the test. God then blessed Abraham abundantly – as He will you or me or anyone whom He decides to test. Abraham knew, instinctively, that God promised him a son and that Isaac would be part of a great future. This is why Abraham did what God asked. It was to test Abraham to see if He would actually sacrifice his only son. Abraham was ready to but God spared him. God did not spare His Son, Jesus. His destiny was to die on the cross for your sins and mine.
We are to consider it a privilege to be tested of God. God does NOT test a lot of people because they can’t handle it, or they are too busy to serve Him. I was one of those! I asked God to show me His plan and purpose for me because I wanted to know. I should say that I HAD TO KNOW.
My trials happened over about a 16 month period of time from January of 2008. I got past the part of learning to trust that God would take care of my daily bread items, but I had to learn to lose pride. I learned that hard lesson, but I get it now.
I then had to learn to let go of my FEAR every time Satan threw something FEARFUL at me.
I have two FEARS thrown at me at this very moment, but I have learned that God will get me through both of them…and that I will be unscathed...just like Daniel was unscathed.
satan throws a "Goliath" at us every chance he gets. His FEARS are large...looming...threatening. But, like Goliath, God made short order of him using a little seventeen year old shepherd boy named David. David was blessed for TRUSTING God. He became king!
Maybe now...the devil will learn to go after someone who has less confidence in God than I do as a result of my faith…my learned faith and trust!
EXODUS 16:4 - “Then the Lord said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may TEST them, whether they will walk in My law or not.”
When God dropped the “daily bread” from heaven, He wanted to see if He could trust the Israelites to not pick up two days worth. They failed.
God promised them one day’s worth of “manna” and told them not to look for tomorrow’s needs to be met before tomorrow arrived. This is what He wants us to learn.
Jesus told us to ask God to "give us THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD".
This comes directly from the Old Testament period of the Israelites wandering around - doing their own thing - for forty years instead of taking God's three week shortcut.
Their lesson was all about trusting God for their bread - for one day at a time. It's all about TRUST.
TRUST GOD - or lose the benefit of having peace...which is the opposite of STRESS.
I pray now for today’s needs to be met…although some bills are on my desk for next month, and I have to trust that God will meet them somehow. So far, for TWO YEARS, He has paid every bill…large or small…so why should I not trust Him for tomorrow? It's learned through God's "time of testing".
The upside of this “training program” is that I get to go to sleep at night now and I can actually sleep! I used to lie awake most of the night worrying. How about YOU?
Jesus told us all not to worry at all…but especially never to worry about tomorrow. To do so causes nothing but unwarranted stress.
The stress that I used to carry with me daily was self-inflicted. I had to learn the truth about Matthew 6:34 –“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Are YOU stressing? You do NOT have to.
JEREMIAH 17:10 - ”I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”
God WILL test those of us whom He plans to use to further His plans. If we are willing to take the chance, He will test us first…then He will bless almost everything we do so that His plan can continue.
Why would we not want to discover what His plan and purpose is for our life? His plan is far superior to anything we could dream of.
JAMES 1:2-3 – “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience."
I have learned that God CUSTOMIZES trials for US to go through. My trial will be different from yours. The end result, however, will always be the same. Can God trust you...ad will you trust Him?
James 1:12 –“Blessed is the man who endures TESTING; for when he has been proved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”
When God tests us...and we pass (meaning we have been proven by fire...refined by the furnace...molded by the potter), then He will bless us. He blessed every single person that He tested in the Bible.
Take the EASY WAY toward a peaceful, stress-free life. Trust God.
Ask Him to show you what His plan and purpose for YOUR life is.
He WILL test you, so you have to mean it. You must be willing to ask God to actually bring a test your way so he can prove that you can pass it.
I can tell you this…from first-hand experience, that once your trial…your “Boot Camp” is over, the best of your life lies ahead of you.
