A remarkable story about a man was revealed to the world in 1978. A story so incredible it took 45 top-notch international scientists to compile the data that was needed. It's source of investigation was a piece of cloth 14' 3" x 3' 7" long called the Shroud of Turin kept safe in Turin, Italy.
Some of the information scientists compiled from their research had an overwhelming similarity to that of the Biblical account of a crucified man called Jesus. This information indicated that it was not a painting or fake but a genuine image of a man created by a process not yet known to science. Some conclusions were that the impression was made by the force or power illuminated from the resurrected Christ.
Experts determined the image on the Shroud was a man 5' 10 1/2" at about 175 pounds and around 30 years of age. His hair had been tied back in a ponytail, the customary way of the Jews during that period. Spikes or nails pierced the wrists of the hands contracting the thumbs that made them appear to be missing . Lashes throughout the back, chest and thighs revealed the man had been whipped 90 to 120 times by possible two Roman soldiers who showed no mercy in their flogging using a flager with two to three metal tips. A heavy object was carried on his back rubbing his shoulders raw, dislocating one of them. A cap of sharp objects or thorns was worn on his head causing numerous gashes and punctures on the scalp. Bruises and dirt on the knees indicated repeated falls. A 2" wound between the fifth and sixth rib on the right side was caused by a spear like weapon. A 7" spike pierced both feet without breaking any bones. His face had been severely beaten; he had a possible broken nose with both eyes badly swollen. One eyelid had a deep cut and numerous other cuts and bruises were found on the cheeks.
Judean coins were placed over the eyes after death. The Old Testament Biblical account of such a man as this was recorded hundreds of years before the actual crucification of Christ. It describes the future man to be crucified as the "Servant so severely beaten, bloodied and disfigured that one would scarcely know it was a person", Isaiah 52:14,15.
Carbon test results dated the cloth at a later period that did not line up with the time of Christ. Skeptics attributed the discrepancy to pollution or fire damage that could have altered the results. My own personal conclusion is that "God is in control". If it were the actual pictorial burial cloth of Jesus (the very face of God) it would immediately become an object of worship, which would not be in the Makers plan. He wants our worship to be directed upon Him and not on some impersonal object or thing. Once again it is by faith alone--believing who He is and what he has accomplished through his death and resurrection that counts : forgiveness, restoration and eternal life. This Easter season are you going to join the agnostics who discredit Jesus actual existence or will you by faith confess your wrong doing and invite Christ into your life receiving his gift of pardon and eternal life. The choice is yours to make.
I John 5:20 "And we know that Christ, Gods Son has come to help us understand and find the true God and now we are in God because we are in Jesus Christ his son who is the only true God and he is eternal life. "
