Why I Was Made

I wasn't always there, in that place where people remember me
I was from far away
I never knew I would be remembered for something so different
To escape a hot day, people used to sit in my shade
Children used to climb on me and play
But that's not why I was made...

I was made for that day
The day which the world would sing
The day I held my King

I wasn't always there, in that place where people remember me
How would I know?
That I would make my mark on history
I used to give shade to those in the heat
Children used to climb and play on me in their bare feet
But that's not why I was made

I was made for that day
The day which the world would sing
The day I held my King

How could I forget that day?
The day they came for me...
My purpose would soon be reveled, but what would it be?
My limbs were cut and I was trimmed to size
I would soon know why I was given life
This is why I was made

I was made for that day
The day which the world would sing
The day I held my King

They brought Him out, for all to see
They brought Him out, and nailed Him to me
He had no clothes, they had ripped out His beard
He had so many wounds, but that isn't why He had tears
I knew it was Him, He always knew my name
I knew it was Him, who came to bare the whole worlds shame
I knew it was for Him, that I was made

I was made for that day
The day which the world would sing
The day I held my King

I held Him the best I could do
I stood tall with honor nine hours through
This is how people would remember me
Holding a King that was punished like a thief
Holding the One who created me
That was why I was made

I was made for that day
The day which the world would sing
The day I held my King

After He died,
He was taken down
They removed the thorns that were His crown
Covered Him with cloth, and placed Him in His grave
After the earth shook, I saw Him again
He told me "Well done." and called me His friend
The whole world would know, the part that I played
The whole world would see
That once just a tree...
But when all hope is lost
People still remember me as the cross...

And that's why I was made...

I was made for that day
The day which the world would sing
The day I held my King
