Sunday 2/7/2010 Pastor Alex’s sermon: I Am Second-Identity Upgrade
I Peter 2:9-10, Acts 26:16a, 18
We must have an Identity Upgrade when we get Jesus. Our skin color, our gender or our place in life does not matter. We must not be boxed in by the world and its ideas. No matter what we’ve been boxed into, Jesus has made us free. We are not second class citizens. There is no male, female or class in Heaven. God is not a respecter of persons. Jesus does not value a Phd doctor over a homeless person. The white race or the rich folk are not a supreme race.
The most dangerous box we can have is the box we set up ourselves. It is the way we think about ourselves in our own mind. God wants to take us to places and do spectacular things with us and for us. We must upgrade our identity.
1) We are a Chosen People: I Peter 2:9-10
We are a part of a chosen people. We have to realize this and get on the great adventure with God cause now we belong to Him. He has plans for us. We must understand who we are in Christ. God is not a abstract god. He wants to be connected to us and He wants us to hear Him when He speaks to us. He mostly speaks to us through the Word of God. Not only does God want a relationship with us He wants to be center of our life. God wants us to be about His Business. His plan includes us cause He knew we would choose Him. God is a discerner of the heart.
God had come for the broken people, the cracked folk. God is the potter and we are the clay. We’ve been given a New Name cause we are a member of God’s Family. We are adopted into God’s Family. Our names is changed from Sinner to Saint. Our name changed when we were adopted into God’s family and translated from darkness to light.
2) We have been given an Inheritance:
We are part of God’s family and we are an HEIR. God’s inheritance for us is great and we have FULL right to it. We are not a step-child or an unwanted child. We are not unwanted children but instead, God wants us TOTALLY and COMPLETELY!! God’s love for us is so intense and so great! God’s molding and shaping of us is the inheritance also.
Acts 26:16a, 18 We have a purpose as a family member of God. We’ve got obligations as a family member of God. We are part of the Family Business. God’s Business is to help get people out of darkness and into the light so He can have a relationship with them. We are ambassadors of Christ. The Creator of the Universe is Our Daddy!!
3) We are part of the Family Business:
There is a training program that God has for us. Just like Bojangles Chicken has a training program, so does God. At Bojangles you have to learn the biscuit table, then the grill, then how to cut chicken. This training has to be mastered before you can get into management. So, God has a training program that a son or daughter of God have to go through. We have to learn and grow in God’s training program before he gives us some of our inheritance. The training program is Life and we are the clay on the potter’s wheel.
God’s business is priesthood. We have to get on that biscuit table and learn God’s business so we can testify and lead others to Christ. We got to be responsible in the Family Business. Our job is to help people be translated from darkness to light, from sinner to saint, from death to life in Jesus!! We are priests and must pursue God, get on the potters wheel and be about the Family Business.
