“DENNIS, JESUS LOVES YOU” - SAND WITNESS

Summer 2001 while walking along Onetangi Beach on Waiheke Island near Auckland, I asked the Lord how I could speak to all the people that summer walking along the beach. There were too many to speak to one at a time. As a result of that prayer, I felt to write the words "Jesus loves you" in huge letters in the sand with a box frame around it. It took me about 5 minutes to do it big enough, facing the road so that cars driving past couldn’t help but see if it if they looked down at the beach. Later in the day I noticed that someone had changed the word “Jesus” to “Dennis.” I smiled.
The following day before most people were down on the beach, I extended this & wrote about 50 Bible texts right along the mile-long beach. It took me about two hours to do this. Later, dozens of people stopped to read these & I listened in to some conversations as people stopped to read. None of these people had seen me write these and I didn’t enlighten them. My part now was simply to pray that the Lord would do His work in their lives.
The first snippet I heard might have put me off forever! One woman said to her friend, "Look. Here’s another one. This is beach pollution." I don’t know what she thought what we receive on TV & the internet is but far worse mind pollution! Further along I heard two people talking and one said, “Isn’t this wonderful. Finding scriptures on the beach!” At the end of the beach I heard a young boy say to his mother, “Look Mum, here are ten of them. What are these Mum?” She replied, “Those are the 10 commandments, son.”
Much later I walked back and noticed that yet again some of the “Jesus” words had been changed to “Dennis.” So the following morning I wrote one last large sign, “Dennis, Jesus loves you.” I pray I will see Dennis in glory.
