For you people it may be difficult to love and understandably so, for you love with attachments. But when I love it is different.
I have not attached any conditions to my loving you. You people often love if the conditions are met or the conditions are just right. You call it love when you have friends over for dinner, but what about those who are not friends but strangers; would you have them over for dinner? You call it love when you give to charity but was it a sacrifice? Even in the name of love you may be giving but secretly you have an ulterior motive; that’s not love!
It is written that a man can have no greater love than to give his life for others.(1) For many it may be possible to give his or her life for a loved one or perhaps a friend or even his country, which is a noble thing indeed and it brims with love and heroism, but to give your life for the sake of an enemy? Would you be willing to go that far? Again, in my testimony it is written of my Son that He gave his life for all people.(2)
I wrote the book on love.
The apostle Paul in his day wrote a lot about love. Do you think he was teaching others what he knew about love? I suppose so, but Paul wrote what he learned from Me. He watched me and saw and experience the truth about love that there were no conditions attached to it. I’ll show you some of the things he learned.
Paul learned that love is accompanied with patience and kindness. You cannot be proud or high minded and love at the same time. In your behavior towards others you will never, never seek your own needs before some one else and you will find that love never forces itself onto others. You will not focus on the wrongs of others but seek to cover them and return kindness for evil. You will not easily be hurt or offended when you love and care for others. You rejoice when you hear truth and detest lying.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things. Lastly but not the least, Paul learned that love never fails.(3)
Having said all this, you need to know as well that love is an action word. Just saying you love is not enough. Love needs to be demonstrated to be fully effective. This becomes very interesting for I am a Spirit and do not have a body like humanity so therefore for me to demonstrate unconditional love I need people to do so. Thankfully I have many of you available that are willing to let my love flow through you.
You might as well know that loving like this takes grace, which is not a problem for grace I have in abundance. You can ask me anytime and I promise you I will give it.(4)
If you want to know more about love, there is so much more about it in the book I wrote. There are lots of life stories and illustrations of love recorded in it. It is available in every library and bookstore. I’m not sure if it has an ISBN number but it is also available online. The more common title is ‘The Bible’ but it is also referred to as ‘The Scripture’
