Psalm 119 is a beautiful acknowledgement of the importance of God's word in King David's life. He reminds us that God's word, among many other things:
Brings light into darkness
Verse 105 - Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Like the light of a flashlight illuminates a dark path through the woods, God's word shows the truth in the midst of conflicting points of view.
Is written in our hearts
Verse 11 - Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.
Like a treasure that we keep in a special place and take out to remind us of a special time, God's word is in our hearts for His Spirit to bring out and remind us of His instructions for living and keep us from wandering away.
Is food for the soul
Verse 103 - How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
As the taste of something sweet in our mouths, God's words bring joy and encouragement to our souls.
Brings blessings to those who reverence it
Verse 1 - How blessed are those whose way is blameless; who walk in the law of the LORD.
We are seen as living right and kept safe in His care when we follow the instructions God has lovingly and graciously provided for this life.
King David's tribute to the truth and power of God's word inspires us to know and love God's word too.
How important is God's word in your life?
