What do you want me to say
when you ask if I am OK?
That I can't seem to pray?
What do you want me to say?
That I'm all right?
That I'm getting lonesome at night?
What do you want me to say?
That I can't stop thinking about her.
That something dramatic needs to done
because she and I can't seem to get on the same page
and just find each other and have fun.
What do you want me to say
when you ask if I am OK?
No, of course not.
None of us are.
We're happy, sad, down, up,
in a bundle of nerves, happy to be this far.
What do you want me to say?
Please give me a clue.
Maybe then I'll know just what to do.
Maybe then I'll stop hiding it all inside
and won't go on making up things for you.
What do you want me to say?
That I need you and want you
yet I can't seem to act that way.
What do you want me to say?
Do I have to lay it all out for you
every day, every time, every way?
What do you want me to say?
Because I haven't got a clue.
I don't know what will do
to get you to stop asking
to get you to stop caring
to get me to stop running.
What do you want me to say
when you ask if I am OK?
Maybe I should lie.
Maybe I should fake a smile.
Then will I have answered?
Then will I get off for a while?
For a friend, the truth for a friend.
Is that what you want?
Is that what you would say
if I asked you if you are OK?
What do you want me to say?
Should I ask about you?
Should I ask about your day?
Would that send the right message
Would that be going halfway?
What do you want me to say?
You won't leave without an answer.
You won't change the subject without a nod.
You won't give up.
It would take an act of God.
Should I chose my words,
wonder what words I should keep?
Or should I say what's on my heart
and damn what they reap.
I'm a sinner.
I'm a loser.
I'm a nobody.
I'm a child of God.
I'm the beloved.
I'm his.
That's where I am.
Wrapped in his arms.
Cuddled next to his heart.
Walking the road to the foreign sty.
Wondering how I lost it all.
Wondering how it feels to be free.
What do you want me to say
when you ask if I am OK?
I'm in love.
I'm entranced.
I'm alive.
I'm breathing.
I'm walking.
But I don't think I'm running.
I am here.
Is that enough?
I am here.
That's all I have to offer.
I guess I know then
what you want me to say
when you ask if I am OK.

Good poem. I like its flow and how you stayed away from the traditional ab,ab,ab... if you are ever fine tuning it, there's a part at the end "don't thinking I'm running" you might want to switch around. Good message. I am glad to see something new of yours!
