Christian, a word so often heard, but often misunderstood by many people. The term “Christian” means little Christ, or a miniature version of Christ. A person who is a Christian has been born-again by grace through faith plus nothing else. No fancy ceremonies, or rituals are needed, just a simple faith, and a repentant heart.
A Christian follows after the example of Jesus by loving and showing compassion for the lost, but at the same time a true believer is called to be “Salt and Light” in a lost and dying world.
What does it mean to be “Salt and Light”? Well, Salt is used as a seasoning for food, but it is also used as a preservative to keep meat and other things from rotting. So the picture here of salt means that Christians are to have a preservative affect in society, and retard moral and spiritual decay. We are to fight against things that are ungodly, even if that means involving ourselves in politics in order to stop immoral men from tearing apart everything that is sacred, sound familiar?
Being light means that Christians are actually reflect the light of Christ by spreading the message of the Gospel from one end of the earth to the other. This is accomplished by feeding the hungry, and caring for the felt needs of people in our communities who are physically in need.
Being “Salt and Light” does have its down side as those who are spiritually dead, and devoid of Biblical truth will take aim at those who love God. Jesus warned us that we would be hated by evil men, so it is no surprise when we are persecuted for our faith. Jesus told us to be happy when we are persecuted for our faith, and to bless those who hate us.
There are many religious people in America and throughout the world that consider themselves to be Christian because they believe in God, or they attend church somewhere, but that does not make them a Christian, only religious. Those who are religious do not have the indwelling Holy Spirit, and therefore are not true children on God, and are still headed for the lake of fire.
If you are reading this today I pray you will put your faith totally in Jesus the Christ, and accept his free gift of Salvation why you still can. There will be those who will undoubtedly take issue with what I have said in this article, but the facts still remain that Jesus said more than once in the Scripture, “You must be born-again”. That is not a suggestion that is an absolute if you want to enter his heaven.
If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
