Read 1 Samuel 18:1-5 (the Bible passage is from the New International Reader's Version (NIrV) of the Bible and can be read online at www.biblegateway.com)
In verse 4, why do you think Jonathan gave his coat and his weapons to David as tokens of their friendship?
As the king's son, Jonathan would have had many privileges. He would have had everything he needed or wanted. His clothes were the clothes of a prince. His tools and weapons would have been the best.
The next verse (verse 5) says David did all that King Saul commanded. Saul sent David to fight in a war. David would have needed Jonathan's gifts for protection and survival.
The king was hoping that David would be killed in battle, but Jonathan loved him and did what he could to help his friend.
Do you have friends like that? It is important to choose good friends who know the Lord; friends who will stay with you and help you no matter what happens.
Are you a friend like that? Would you do whatever is necessary to help a friend in trouble even if it meant giving up something?
If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
