The engine droned low, filling my ears,
I had flown fire patrol missions for several years.
The "Dragon Hunters", was my squadron's name,
Many missions I'd flown, but no two were the same.
All my pilot's were trained, and mission ready,
Each familiar with his craft, and at the stick was steady.
But I always worried, about each and every bird,
and they all knew it, but never said a word.
My radio broke silence, "Nashville?" they called,
"Go ahead" I said, as I spotted smoke thick as fog.
The rangers called in, said we got fire over the next hill,
"Well let's nail down a fix, and this dragon we'll kill".
All done their duty, and each flew with pride,
Another dragon down, and man what a ride!
