I lift my voice to Thee on high.
Incline thine ear; O hear my cry.
Each sorrow, burden, need and care
Ascends to Thee on wings of prayer.
For problems mount on every side;
In fear and trembling I abide.
Tarry not, my Lord, I pray.
I need your mercy now... this day!
My God was faithful to His Word;
Each tearful prayer my Jesus heard.
He answered every earnest plea
Not as I thought, but differently...
For circumstance remained the same,
Yet in the Presence of that Name,
Perspective changed and I could see
My life in light of Eternity...
How when engulfed by darkest night,
When fear blocked every ray of light,
When friendless, loveless, all alone...
'Tis then I took Him as my own.
When drowning in my sin and mire,
He became my heart's desire.
O bless the sorrow; bless the pain
That let me call on His dear Name!
More trials prepared the fertile ground
Where persevering faith abounds.
That faith then caused my feet to stand.
I grasped another's trembling hand...
For sorrow wondrously wrought in me
A deep and blest capacity
To understand and comfort saints
Who, like me, were weak and faint.
How sufferings in this present life--
Loneliness, heartache, pain and strife--
Are worthy not to be compared
To all the glory I shall share
With other sinners saved by grace
Who ran with faith this earthly race
Until they reached that golden shore
Where tears and death shall be no more.
Yes, in the Presence of that Name,
Though circumstance remained the same,
Perspective changed and I could see
My life in light of Eternity.
Lord, keep my vision ever clear
To always see beyond these tears
When sorrows of this life have passed
And I am home with Thee at last.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
2 Corinthians 1:3,4 NIV
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Romans 8:18 KJV
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:17,18 NIV
