My name is Henry. I write books to help people understand the Bible. I never wrote for someone your age before so this is something new for me. I have asked God to give me the right words to share with you so you will understand and enjoy this book.
I have written this for eight to twelve year old young people. A long time ago, I coached a little league girl’s softball team. They were all nine and ten year olds and it was a fun time for me.
Sometimes this age group of young people is called “Jumping Juniors.” They are called this because they are so active and full of energy. They are eager to learn and ask many questions. That’s good. Juniors have many emotions and they make decisions by how they feel. They have the ability to make friends and forget and forgive better than others. But there is a danger because sometimes they listen to people who do not tell the truth. They hear their teachers and listen to their friends. Since they are still learning they believe everything that they hear. Because of this, it is important that they have good family relationships.
God tells us in the Bible that we should respect and listen to our parents. If you do, it will result in a longer, happy life. Your parents care more for you than anyone else and they want you to succeed. When you fail they think that they have failed. Your success and failures always affect the ones that love you the most and they want to help. Keep asking questions to your parents and grandparents and they will try to give you the best answers.
There is much information that you will receive. Be careful about everything you hear and read because many people do not tell the truth. They believe what they are saying is truth, but it may just be their opinion.
In this book I will tell you about the greatest book ever written.
The reason the Bible is so great is that it is the only book that tells the truth about God.
1. How is the Bible different from every other book?
Usually one person writes a book and it contains their points of view. The more books that people write on a subject, the more opinions there will be.
The Bible is not like that. It has one author (God Himself) and He has directed different people to write His word.
Think about this; the Bible is like a library. There are 66 books in the Bible written by 50 different people. These people lived at different times and locations and had different backgrounds. The time that took place in putting the Bible together was over 1500 years.
What is interesting about all of this is there is not one single mistake or error in the Bible. That is the reason we can trust it as God’s Word. Because there is a God, it is important that He tell us about Himself and His purpose for us. That is the reason the Bible is so great.
2. What does the Bible tell us about God?
We can never understand everything about God. I have been studying about Him for over 50 years and still have a lot to learn. Let’s keep it simple and as we continue to answer your questions you will gain more understanding.
A. He is Eternal.
What does that mean? It means that he had no beginning or end. He caused all things to happen but no-one caused Him. Eternal is like a circle. You can’t tell where it starts or ends. We live in a space we call time. Time consists of years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. We understand things that relate to time. That is why it is hard for us to understand what eternity is. Think about this endless circle having a hairline size break in it. That break is what we call time. Eternity means forever.
B. He is Holy.
That is a word that describes how pure and clean God is. Because we are not perfect, it is hard for us to understand what perfect purity is. Later we will understand why this part of God is so important. Being holy means that God cannot do anything that is wrong. He cannot and will not. He never causes wrong to happen. He is perfect. What He says and does is always right.
C. He is Love.
Here is a good definition of Love. “The ability to do what is right.” Just as your parents show their love toward you, in giving you what is best, God’s love is just the same. He always wants what is best for us. One friend of mine once thought that God was someone who hid behind a cloud with a baseball bat. He believed that God was ready to club us if we were having any fun. That is not what God is like. He promises to bring joy into our lives.
D. He is there when we need Him.
He always has time for us. Some people have the idea that God is too busy with more important things. He is never too busy; He is always ready to hear us. He wants us to pray to Him no matter how big or small our need may be.
There are many more things we can say about God. For now, this is all that you need to know. As we write more books I will answer other questions as they come to mind. If you have other subjects that you would want me to write about, let your parents and grandparents know
