This Prodigal Returns
You know that I deserve this mess,
I've brought it on myself,
Forgive me, Lord, and wash me clean,
Don't put me on the shelf.
I can do no better
If You leave me on my own,
My spirit, Lord, is willing
But my flesh sits on the throne.
I know that I have grieved You,
But Your pride I long to see,
So change me, Lord, please change me
Or still a mess I'll be.
I so regret that others pay
The price for what I've done,
The consequences I must bear,
My guilt born by Your Son.
I plead, Lord, for Your mercy,
This prodigal returns,
Forgiveness You have granted,
The peace my spirit yearns.
