That’s What I’d Be
Lost, broken hearted, fill with despair
traveling on a one way path, to hell
Bound forever, by the chains of satan
my own efforts would never prevail
I’d have no spirit of truth to guide me
over the mountains of painful sorrow
I’d be a hopeless, worthless vessel
with no promise of a better tomorrow
I’d be a beggar lying out on the street
as others pass by, without a care
As aimless as a leaf in a windstorm
torn to pieces…. beyond repair
My days would drift from one to next
with no meaning or purpose at all.
I’d have no friend to walk beside me
who’d lift me back up, when I fall
I’d have no shelter, no food on my table
none of my needs would be met
I’d never know, an unconditional love
I’d be held captive in hatred’s net
So, I know what I’d be, without Jesus
I’d be as a bird flying without wings
Just an empty, sinful puppet
with ole satan …. pulling the strings
