Lamentations 3:22-23 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not; they are new every morning. Great is Thy faithfulness.
What holds us up during times of stress, or trouble or uncertainty? Certainly nothing we can boast about. We can't brag that our faith is holding us up because sometimes our faith will falter. Sometimes we get discouraged. Sometimes we feel like giving up. It is of the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, not swallowed up by all the stuff life piles on us. And what triggers His mercies? Again, nothing we can boast about in ourselves. His compassions for us produce His mercies. He remembers that we can become weak and frail. And so He holds us up. I'm so glad His mercies and compassions are abundant because I surely do need them.
And not only are His mercies and compassions abundant, they're always fresh. They are new every morning. The mercies and compassions of God are never stale, never something just warmed over. He never says, "Use the mercies and compassions you have left over from yesterday." (Like that rollover minutes commercial on television.)
How many of you are old enough to remember the bread truck that would come early on many mornings? There is nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread. And there is nothing like fresh mercies and fresh compassions every morning. Have you tried some? They’re free–fresh from the throne of Grace.
