A small group of disciples gathered at the shore of Capernaum. Huddled around a small fire, set Jesus, Simon, (the zealot), Thaddeus, Thomas and Judas. The night was still and crisp, and a conversation was going something like this;
Thaddeus says, "that was funny. I never laughed so hard in my life."
Jesus says; "Howís that Thaddeus? You mean when you almost fell out of the boat?"
Thaddeus says, "Well, you should have seen the face on Peter, before we knew it was you. You scared all of us you know, walking about on the sea like that. But Peter was mortified, I mean in a stupor. And then when he got out of the boat and started to walk with you, I mean, weíve never seen anything like that. To me itís funny now, but at the time I nearly wet myself."
Jesus grins; "Thaddeus exaggerates. Fellows, I do things My Father asks me to do. What I did was to show you part of the possibilities of GOD. What you as men canít seem to grasp, is that as long as I am with you, My Father will show you the mysteries of the kingdom. As all men, you want to see, to touch; but My Father is beyond the things men know. Yet you will see many more things to come. Have I given you understanding now?"
Thomas says; Lord, we know you are, who you say you are, but people ask us all the time; who is this man?" How do we address this? What do we tell people?"
Jesus says; "Tell them this, the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Tell them you know me to be from My heavenly Father, and that I am sent to preserve what has been lost. Tell them I ask that they love one another as My Father loves Me, and I love you, and you love them. Be kind to strangers and take them in, for such were you a stranger and I took you in. Tell them to love GOD more than all and if they do, these other things will follow. Tell them that."
Thaddeus asks, "Rabbi, we have seen you perform some amazing things, that no man has ever done. We believe; how are others who have seen these same things and have not believed? You know when we were in Nazareth, you didnít do very many miracles there. You did the water into wine, and fed us and your family with only two hens and were we ever stuffed. . (He laughs). ..But why couldnít you do much more?
Jesus says; "Thaddeus, people see what they want to see. For one to believe is more than seeing, it is within a manís heart to believe. A lot of my family saw me do things as a child. They just thought I did magic tricks and it was fun. But today, the Power from the Holy Spirit walks with Me. When we were in Nazareth, the power of unbelief was such against me, that the Holy Spirit was withdrawn for a time. Belief is power and such power only can come through faith. The Holy Spirit works in such ways. My Father whoís name you know, has given Me this Power from above, and such I will leave you when I leave. By the way, where are Peter and John?
They all laughed, knowing Jesus already knew, and Jesus just grinned and poking a stick in the fire said, "I shall go up to the Temple on the Sabbath, and teach."
Judas said, "But wonít they be searching for you there?"
Jesus answered; "Of course they will, but My time hasnít come yet and they will be prevented from seizing me. You fellows donít worry, I will be fine, besides you need to buy more food anyway." Jesus winked at Judas; "We do have enough money, right?"
Judas said nervously; "Yes, Rabbi, we do."
Then came in Matthew, John and Peter to the fire, "Whatís all the talk?" they asked.
They all laughed, and said, "weíre gonna get some sleep!"
Peter asked; "What, what did I say?
Simon said, "I think itís about your wet sandals. . ."
Peter lunged at Thaddeus. . ."I ought to knock you out, (laughing), come back here!" as Thaddeus runs laughing, Peter says, "I am going to get him back you know. Well, I am! Wet sandals, my eye!"
Jesus chuckled as he settled in for the night, knowing His days were short. But also knowing in His heart he had picked just common men to believe.
