A YELLOW COCK HERALDS THE SONG
A yellow cock heralds the song
The whistling wind it goes,
The little robins chirp along
The morn from evening grows.
With gladsome hearts and hymns of praise
The Lord on high lets hail,
Whose faithfulness and love and grace
Or mercies never fail.
From infancy through all our days
His eye on us He keeps,
By mount or vale in all our ways
He slumbers not nor sleeps.
Who, of our many sins, in spite
Doth gladly us forbear,
Though pure as light and bright as white
For us He'll always care.
How patiently He doth entreat
How tenderly He bears,
We often fall about His feet
To cast our pains and cares.
How liberally He doth provide
And quickly doth forgive,
Forevermore He's by our side
He no moment will leave.
He counts it most that we are frail
Like lambs He leadeth us,
His barns so full of bread and quail
Like sheep He feedeth us.
The wondrous works His hands hath made
The mountain and the sea,
And countless stars in skies arrayed
He makes our eyes to see.
His mellow sounds the trees upon
For free our ears will hear,
The birds that call, the brooks that run
Their sweetest notes are near.
Like floods comes he our foe to kill
His fiery darts he slings,
From many snares and dangers ill
They cover us His wings
While here on Earth He's sure to bless
Our yoke though light may be,
He built for us a Home of rest
In worlds that eyes can't see.
Holy angels, seraphim bright
In golden worlds above,
With flaming tongues thy hymns recite
Who know His ceaseless love.
Let all creations of our God,
Both plants and beasts of prey,
Stormy wind, fulfilling His word,
Praise Him both night and day.
A yellow cock heralds the song
The whistling wind it blows,
Six robins small still sing along
As eve from morning grows.
With louder croaks joins he his note
A frog atop a log,
Unstopping bleats a tethered goat
With gusto barks a dog.
Who placed such psaltery like a harp
On every creature’s breast,
That kittens mew and monkeys clap
E’en while at play or rest?
The skies have heard the joyful noise
The thunder rocks her drum,
In symphony resounds each voice
The rains with clatter come.
O blest creation of our King
Sing out and be not proud,
With psalms of joy thy praises ring
Rejoice and shout aloud.
Ye man created like our God
Crowned ye like peacocks cute,
Let not an ass rebuke ye, sod,
Whilst thou remaineth mute.
Join now this choir of the Lord
See how the clouds they dance,
Praise Him with mirth thy Maker God
Extol and give Him thanks.
