Psalm Sixty Four is Trusting the Armor

We can trust the armor. The protection that the truth gives comes from the making by a power higher than we possess, and it works because it is the Truth. The nature of lies is that it works only to promote more lies and eventually destroys itself.

A clever man can make a good living on lies, but it requires energy and he eventually grows tired. But the Truth requires no effort on our part. In fact, it GIVES strength and the protection it affords allows us to concentrate our energies on the task at hand and be more effective.

64. The Truth is Coming

Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer; preserve my life from the fear of enemies.
Hide me from the surprise attacks of the wicked and the traps of the troublemakers.
They sharpen their tongues like swords and make ready to unloose their verbal assaults.
They are bitter and would bring down what is perfect and they are not afraid to lie.

They are encouraged by evil thoughts and hide their traps saying, ďWho will know?Ē
They look for injustice, they search it out to make it known and felt deeply by all.
But God will shoot his arrow and suddenly they will be wounded.
They shall make their own tongues to fall upon themselves and all who see it will flee.

All men shall fear and know it is the work of God; they shall gain wisdom from his truth.
The righteous will be glad in the Lord and will trust Him and the upright in heart will rejoice.

The truth is a shield from the attacks of our enemies, both from their traps and from the fear they cause in us. We do not make the truth, we only carry it and it is not a weapon, we canít subdue our enemies with what they ignore. God has other arrows and for now it is enough that we are protected. This is a lesson of action, but it is our Lordís action, not our own. Our shield is the faith we have in the armor we are given and in this cycle of lessons we learn how to use it.

We are back out in the world again but the safe place that was heaven is more than a memory. We carry gifts that protect and sustain us every day and every moment: we are in both worlds at the same time and not ruled by the old fears of what evil men may do. Godís armor gives us courage and we make choices based on fact and experience. There is no need to fear anything but the Lord, ever.
