The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a
cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD
shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth
fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; Psalm 92:12-14;
The general belief is that old age is associated with low productivity and less output; the scripture however says that those who are planted in the house of God shall flourish and bring forth fruits, even in their old age. Old age could either be a blessing or a burden; it depends on the way it is perceived by the individual. While many have cooled off and more or less written themselves off in the assignments of the kingdom because of advancement in age, others are still full of zeal and passion, accomplishing great things for the Lord! The choice is ours to make!
Godís desire for His people is that they stay relevant and useful for as long as they live. Those who are planted in the Lord can stay productive throughout their lifetime because they have continuous access to divine ability of God irrespective of advancement in age. Isaiah 40:30-31; says ĎEven the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faintí. The secret of ceaseless strength as established in Godís word is to be connected to God and wait on Him continually every day.
The secret of staying productive is to be full of visions, dreams and aspirations. A manís vision is the propeller that injects his mind with strength and vigour to stay useful in life. Ability to dream has been given to everyman irrespective of age. One thing I have come to discover is that throughout history, God has never retired any of His people or servants; those who were discarded in His program were those who retired themselves! Advancement in age should never be an excuse for not working for the Lord; a vessel that stays useful is the vessel that the Master will care for and keep jealously.
The bible is full of examples of men who did exploits for God in their old age; Noah was 12o years when he embarked on the divine assignment of building the ark of salvation. Abraham was 75 years when God called him. Moses was 80 years when he answered Godís call to deliver the children of Israel; he could have given God so many excuses about his old age, but he laboured tirelessly for additional 40 years to lead Godís people out of the land of bondage. Even at 120 years, Moses was still as strong as ever! Caleb was 80 years old when he went to battle to take possession of the land allocated to him and his generation; he was not ready to forfeit his portion and God-given inheritance, advancement in age was not an excuse for him!
Unlike Caleb, so many people are forfeiting their portions and God-given inheritance in life and ministry because they have pegged down their own lives by
reason of advancement in age. Old age should never stand in anybodyís way to attempting and achieving great things for the Lord. The truth is that once a man accepts in his mind that he is old to achieve or work for the Lord, his body system and organs begins to age immediately!
Opportunity to be enlisted in Godís Army and bring forth fruits is still much open; every one of us, irrespective of age, has a place in the divine assignments of Godís kingdom. It will be improper for us therefore to retire ourselves when God says there are still grounds to cover. God retires no man; any one who is no more producing fruits or making difference in the kingdom assignments has either retired himself or lost his God-given vision. The secret of staying youthful is to stay useful!
Amen! It's interesting you began with the very verse God gave me in "Leaves Always Green" which I wrote for the Weekly Challenge on "Green". Age means nothing to God, after all, our time is in His hands!
