3 TESTS PEOPLE OF DESTINY MUST PASS
“If you are the son of God, turn these stones to bread”, such words could be translated “Prove you are the son of God by turning these stones to bread”. In other words “Your claim of being God’s son is baseless unless you can turn stones to bread. Your identity as God’s son depends on your ability to perform.”
Today’s society continues to resound with these ancient words. You hear them when you are taunted “Something must be wrong with you for still being a virgin”. They push and pull for your attention when the beautiful and slim model opts for a liposuction to achieve that perfect body she desperately craves. They keep saying what they said more than two thousand years ago-“Your identity depends on how you look, what you can do, what you possess, your past etc.”
Please don’t misconstrue the last statement as an excuse for mediocrity. It’s clearly stated in the scriptures that God wants everyone to be successful in all facets of life, (3 John 2, 2Peter 1:3, Isaiah 1:19). However our identity should rest solely on what the Word of God says about us. There is a difference between loosing weight to stay healthy and loosing weight because you are convinced that plump women are ugly.
When we derive our sense of self worth from anything or anyone other than our Maker, we fall into the performance trap. We have to perform by accruing more wealth to feel adequate. We have to perform by complying with the laid down rules for dressing well as a woman to be complete.
However we can be free from this performance trap by clinging to this truth “You are complete in Him”, (Colossians 2:10).
