Resting in Your Dad's Hands
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God... " (I Peter 5:6, KJV)
I was born 2 1/2 months before the doctors said I should come into this world. I weighed 2 lbs. 9 oz. I was so tiny. My dad could hold me in the palm of his hand. Most of you probably were not that tiny at birth. You're probably also too old to want to climb up on your dad's lap anymore. I'm pretty sure you think that's for babies. These are the best pictures God's revealed to me of what Jesus says a relationship with Him is meant to be like. Jesus told His disciples to humble themselves as little children" (Matthew 18:5,KJV). This phrase means you are to come to God for everything just like you came to your parents for everything when you were younger.
When you were afraid, didn't you run to your dad and climb up on his lap to feel safe? Maybe your earthly dad wasn't a safe place to go, but God always is. If you could climb up on your dad's lap for safety and comfort, God wants you to do the same thing with Him. I Peter 5:6 takes it another step when the Holy Spirit writes through Peter Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God " (KJV). It's like God is saying, My child become like a little baby and let Me hold you in the palm of My hand. You'll be safe here forever." Now I invite you to rest in your Dads hand.
