I grew up on a 160 acre farm in Southwest Oklahoma.
We 4 sons had to be careful where we stepped, not just in the cow lot....
but also to be on the lookout for snakes!
I recall one day when had I taken one more step...
a big bull snake was in my path (or maybe I was in his path).
Another night while fishing, a storm blew in, so we headed for the car.
I waited for the light to show me the way to our car.
One more step and I would have stepped off a cliff into the river!
The Spiritual lesson here is that we all need to wait for God's light and let Him direct our steps as He has promised. The Bible tells us The Way and the steps we need to take.
Don't you remember how many times David rushed ahead of God?
Had he waited for God's light, he would not have taken the step of infidelity.
Likewise Moses in anger, struck the rock and said, "Must I bring forth water?"
God would have performed the miracle.
Moses just needed to take one step of faith and wait on the Lord...then give God the glory!
My favorite Old Testament Scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not unto your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path (steps)."
After his transgressions, David learned that he should let God direct his steps....
so he wrote many Psalms.
One of my favorites is Psalms 37 where we learn the steps of the Saints that are ordered by the Lord. Remember that the 'stops' of a good person are also ordered by our Lord.
~ Verse 1: 8 "Fret not"
Worry is like the loose lid on a tea kettle.
It's hard to take positive steps if you're full of negatives, stress, etc.
~ Verse 3: 25-27: "Trust in the Lord"
The object of your trust and life MUST be in the Lord!
Trust = FAITH:
Remember God is able and God is faithful.
~ Verse 4: "Delight in the Lord"
He gave 'light' to you in the first place when you were saved.
That's the greatest thing that will ever happen to you.
Now trust Him for all your days ....and never lose the wonder of it all.
Truly He and His Word are a light unto your path and your steps!
So the question is, "Where is your delight?"....or rather "Who is your delight?"
~Verse 5-6: "Commit thy way unto the Lord"
The answer to this is 'Commit your way"
~ Verse 7: "Rest (let the weights of your life down") in the Lord and wait patiently for Him." Remember that God can (and will) order our 'steps' as well as our 'stops'.
In music, a 'fermata' is an articulation mark that allows a note or chord to be held for as long as desired. There is the 'making of music' in the those 'stops' (rest)....
just as God will use the 'stops' in our lives.
The 'fermata' looks like a bird's eye and should remind us of how God's eye is on every little sparrow. Since we are even more important than a sparrow to our Heavenly Father, His eye is even moreso on each of us!
La Moyne has a rubber stamp: "God loves you so much He can't keep His eyes off you."
Keep company with the Lord because we become like the company that we keep!
Your life is a gift from God....and for God....so give it back to Him!
~Commit to His Power for nothing is too great for His Power.
~Commit to His Love for nothing is too small for God's Love.
~Report for duty every day for nothing will be better for you than God's Will.
~Let down the weights of your life on the Lord for He loves you with an everlasting Love.
We have been SO blessed to receive cards/letters from members of each church we have served. One was from a member @ Foothill Baptist Church in Los Altos, California where we served for 5 yrs.
"I carry something in my Bible that you said many times while you were our pastor."
~ "May all I say and do
~ be said and done in Jesus' Name
~ in the Power of the Holy Spirit
~ out of a motive of love
~ for the sake of souls
~ and for the glory of God."
It would be good for you to carry that in your Bible, but also carry it...
~ in your heart
~ your life
~ your actions
~ your passion.
When La Moyne was young, she was active in G.A.'s (Girls' Auxiliary) at her home church. The Scripture they repeated each week was:
"Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." (Psalm 119:105)
Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith wrote this chorus from that passage of Scripture.
"Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."
"Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. (repeat)
When I feel afraid think I've lost my way
still you're there right beside me.
And nothing will I fear as long as you are near
Please be near me to the end.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. (repeat)
I will not forget Your love for me and yet
my heart forever is wandering.
Jesus be my guide hold me to your side
and I will love you to the end."

What a beautiful treasure this article is and what a blessing. You know as I was reading it this Scripture found in Psalms came to mind. Ps.119:133-Direct my steps by Your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me. Yes indeed we need to watch our step for there are many snares just waiting to entangle us and we sure don't want to step into one of those. Thsnk you once again for sharing your beautiful heart with us. In His love, your friend, Sharon
