Devotionals
An enemy kneels down to surrender in defeat, a guilty when accused does not speak in defence and many others are the normal behaviour we often see.
However not every time we kneel down is for defeat, not everyone who does not speak in defense is really guilty...
When we kneel down in prayer its for victory and here's when our Lord kept silent was actually for victory..
Then Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You!”
Mark 15:4(New King James Version)
The governor Pilate had come in to hear both sides, the accusers and the accused.
What confused Pilate was that the one end(accusers) was very active, however the accused kept silent.
The accusations were not strong except for some minor things for Pilate as 'He calls himself a king' and 'He told about building up the temple in three days'.
Probably Pilate had handled complicated cases and this one to him seemed baseless and purely out of envy..
Having now tried in vain to make Jesus speak, Pilate tried to save Him and get Him released.
"But Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” For he knew that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy. "
Mark 15:9-10 (New King James Version)
Pilate even tried to overcome the crowd using his authority...
"So they cried out again, “Crucify Him!”
Then Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?” "
Mark 15:13-14 (New King James Version)
Finally Pilate gave up and trying to protect himself judged for the crowd and issued a historical judgment..
"So Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged Him, to be crucified."
Mark 15:15 (New King James Version)
The High Priests, crowd and Pilate thought that now it was the end of Christ, however it was actually the beginning and the fulfillment of God's perfect plan for salvation.
Though salvation which is so precious, costs us nothing, it cost God His own Son, who was accused and stricken for our sake.
We still enjoy the blessings of the death of Christ, Who took away our sins and gave us hope of a new life by His resurrection.
This life is very precious and thus we need to live it carefully, keeping it clean from all the filth and dirt of sin and always giving glory to God in all we do.
