Melancholy heart,
The soul thus occupied,
Imprisoned by self-centered thoughts
And peace is then denied.
Why choose the anguish of despair,
To worry causes grief,
But recognition of His hand
Births joy and sweet relief.
Why need I walk through flood and fire
Before I recognize
Control need not be in my hands,
I need not agonize.
I give God all my cares, concerns,
A gift He then bestows,
Serenity at last is mine
Because His will I chose.
I may not know the outcome
Of this most troubling test,
But it is safe within His hands
And so my soul finds rest.
