THE DRESSMAKER
Laying out her material on the sewing table, Emma was preparing to make her dress to wear to the prom. She wanted it to be unique. Totally different from any other dress and to have a dress that no other girl would be wearing at the prom. She begins cutting her material and pinning each piece here and there then sewing it together, smiling as she stops every fews minutes to admire what she has done. As Emma is about to sew the last button, she notices that she forgot to sew a button on the back of the dress. Shaking her head she tells herself that she has got to fix it because everyone will notice it. Looking at the clock she decides to wait until tomorrow. She will be able to concentrate better after a good nights sleep.
Morning came and Emma had just finished folding the last load of clothes. She heads for the sewing room and picks up the dress and models it in front of the mirror. She decides that the dress isn't all that bad without the button on the back. So she leave the dress as it is. She was satisfied with the way it looked. She knew that just because there was a button missing didn't mean it wasn't good enough. This was her dress, she designed it and it was just right for her.
Some of us are born with a button or two missing. I believe that is the way the Lord designed us. In His own unique way. To God we are perfect. He doesn't see any need to go back and fix us. He has designed us the way He wants us to be. The color of our hair, the color of our eyes. The shape of our nose. Being short, being tall. All these are His designs. The way He designed us on the oustide is only temporary but we seem to be more concerned about how we are on the outside and not putting enough attention on what's inside, thats what really counts. But we sometimes seem to forget. I know I do.
When I notice that my grayness in my hair is becoming noticable I dye my hair and I have done this on many occasions. But not until I started writing this article did I realize I was doing exactly what I had been telling my daughter she shouldn't be doing. Hiding a part of God's design. If I see something I don't like about myself I try to think of ways to change it when I really need to change the way I think about it. I thank the Lord, my dressmaker, for the design he chose for me.

I am often the dress maker who thinks my "clothing" can be improved upon (I think we all do). Thanks for the reminder that God has a right to design us how he so chooses.
