If we intensely crave something, we will go to great lengths to get it. If we have no desire for something, we likely will never get it. Newborn babies desire milk, and it is required for their physical nourishment. Christians should have the same kind of appetite for spiritual nourishment.
The magical formula for developing this appetite is through your desire to have it.
Here are some helpful suggestions:
Begin to read your Bible daily. Find a quiet place and a quiet time. Donít quit. If you quit, then you begin to go backwards.
Have a bible dictionary handy and look up words you do not understand.
Look at the center column references (If you have one.) They are designated in the text by a small letter in the verse. Look up that particular verse.
Make some notes on the sermon or the class lesson, especially on some word or verse the teacher may use with which you are not familiar. Look up the word definition or the scripture reference.
Develop an appetite for the word of God. Crave for it and you will grow into the knowledge and understanding of it. After awhile you will look forward to every visit you have with the Word of God. God speaks to you through His word. This is his line of communication with mankind, and when we neglect it, we shut off the line of communication with him.
Christians must grow from newborn Christians into mature Christians. Keep it up and your appetite will develop. You will be like a tree planted by the rivers of waters.
