“The Lord is the strength of my life, “he is the saving strength of his anointed.”
Happy are the people whose God is the Lord. They are weak, but he strengthens them. They are often in sorrow upon many troubles, but in him they have comfort, he is their song. Death may threaten them, but he will be their salvation. Life is feeble, and is easily crushed out by trouble and sorrow; but as long as God is their strength, there is nothing to fear. No one has power to take life away when God defends them.
Darkness is the emblem of distress, trouble, perplexity, and sorrow; light is the emblem of the opposite of these. God is the source of light. He furnishes his people with such light that troubles disappear.
If God is on our side, or is for us, we can have no apprehension of danger. He is abundantly able to protect us. We can confidently trust in Him. No one needs any better security against the objects of fear or dread than the conviction that God is his friend. Where our salvation is, there our glorying must be. It is through our salvation that the glory of God be revealed.
You do yourself a lot of good when you wait on God. You will be kept in perfect peace. As your faith in God advances to an unshaken firmness, your joy will improve itself into a holy triumph. There is not a trouble in which he cannot relieve you; not a danger in which he will not defend for you. He is a stronghold or fortress to those who put their trust in him.
Trust in God at all times. Tell him all your troubles, for he is your refuge.
He is the only refuge. He is all the refuge that we need.
