Encouragement
A few years ago, God showed me a vision of what I've allowed excuses to do in my life. I had just finished reading a book about a sculptor who was creating a piece of artwork of an angel. The Lord showed me, what looked liked a white marble beam protruding out my heart. I saw myself leaning on this beam.
What God revealed to me next, set me free from using excuses to hold me back. He was telling me I was "leaning" on my excuses and using them as a crutch. Ouch! Now I was accountable to Him regarding excuses. He didn't want me use excuses any more except to teach others the lessons I've learned from holding onto them.
I believe excuses are just lies in disguise. They are hiding you from what is true. It is so easy to use them and at the same time can be such a hindrance to what God has called you to do. What would you do if you had no excuses? Would you step out in faith and do what God has called you do for Him?
A year ago, I stepped out in faith and moved from Minnesota to Colorado to attend Bible College. The Sunday before I moved, I had less than $16 in my bank account. What I did have was a plane ticket, two bags of luggage and a promise from God that He would take care of all of my needs. He blessed me abundantly when I moved by faith.
I chose to abandon excuses and walk by faith. Did it stretch me? Absolutely. Was it worth it? Yes. What happened to me over the next year was life changing and I would have regretted not moving if I leaned on my excuses.
So what excuses have you been using? Let's see if any of these sound familiar:
"I don't have the money"
"I don't have the experience"
"I feel scared"
"I feel rejected"
"My family and friends don't support me"
"I don't have what it takes to see my dream come true"
If you take a close look at each of these excuses, you will see each one has a lie that is trying to hold you back. God wants you to go forward with what He has called you to do. The key is to know God is with you at all times. Use what you already have and see what God can do with it.
The longer you lean on your excuses, the longer you are delaying blessings to flow into your life if you would just pursue your dream. Many times God tells me to take a step and He won't show me the next one until I completed the one He revealed to me. If you feel like you haven't made progress recently, ask God what step you are on.
One way I've discovered to overcome excuses is to take inventory of the ones I've used. Then I ask God to reveal to me the lie behind them. Finally, I replace them with the truth. It says in John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free". (KJV)
The truth is what will set you free from these lies you believed all these years. The good news is, you can be free. You can stop leaning on what has been hindering you. Isn't it time to start moving forward instead of leaning?
