Lord, Speak to me.
Just don’t whisper.
It’s loud down here.
The phones are always ringing.
The TV is usually blaring.
People are always talking.
Traffic is mostly noisy.
Children are always playing.
The dishwasher is running.
The alarm goes off.
I’m tired and I snooze it.
I jump in the shower.
I grab a bagel.
I rush out the door.
I’m on my cell in the car.
The office is busy and loud.
Lord, speak to me.
Just don’t whisper.
It’s loud here.
Lunchtime is with co-workers.
Sorry I laughed at that joke.
Sorry for misusing work time.
It’s time to go home.
Rush hour again.
I’m talking on the phone again.
Sorry I cut someone off in traffic.
Sorry I lost my temper and yelled.
Even worse, I used sign language.
I’m on hold.
Speak to me Lord.
Just don’t whisper.
Now, I home.
Activity is non-stop.
TV when it’s not.
Lord, why do You whisper?
I want to know Your will.
But, I can’t hear it.
I remember You speak in a still small voice.
But, it’s loud down here.
Or, am I just not listening?
Am I quiet long enough to hear?
Do I spend time alone with You?
Would I recognize Your voice?
Lord, whisper to me.
I’m listening.

Jerry,
You have put into words what I have prayed! I have to keep reminding myself to be still and listen. Your message is clearly written, and very worthwhile reading.
Thank you for sharing this excellent writing.
I am so glad he whispers, as he nudges his children to come apart and hear what is on his heart. Thanks, again!
You know, it so, so funny, but just last night I was sitting alone out on the front porch, praying -- "Lord, could You just speak a little louder?" And His response? "Everything I speak is with love. Can you hear me now?" Besides the fact that He whispers, He's got a sense of humor to boot. Wonderful article!
