We have been selected as God’s chosen people to make a difference.
The Promised Land, the land where Milk and Honey flows, in reality, what the Israelites were endowed with, was a land contrary to the literal meaning of the term.
The Promised Land is not rich in resources like that of its several other Middle East neighbors, with hydrocarbon or other natural resources. Nor there are much potential for income from agricultural and farming related activities, considering the limited land, water resources and the cultivability of the available land.
One might view it paradoxical terming this infertile and resource less land as the land of Milk and Honey. Also, it would apparently seem that there is an inconsistency in the fulfilment of God’s promise when they are being taken to this desert spot and that too to live with constant strife. As once said by Golda Meir, former Israeli Prime Minister, although in lighter vein that “Moses took us 40 years through the desert in order to bring us to the one spot in the Middle East that has no oil!.
While Israel moved with the harshness of realities posed at them in its journey to the Land where Milk and Honey flows, the land that was promised to Abraham, they were reinventing the meaning of ‘His Chosen People’ as confronting adversities.
For turning adversities into opportunities, it is for that God chooses.
God chose these people to make a difference in the Land that they got ultimately. Israelites did not run away from that responsibility. And they, Israel nation, could prove to the world that they are different and rose to God’s call. In fact, they could successfully convert this land into one where Milk and Honey flows.
Today, Israel leads the world in bio-technology, agriculture and farm technologies there by offering a promise to a world striving for food security!
It could even make remarkable achievements in the Diary industry, considering the not so favourable condition, for animal husbandry and diary related activities as there are challenges such as heat, humidity, limited land and water resources etc.
Israel experience in rural poverty eradication with the focus on Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs), on a cooperative organisational framework, to achieve an egalitarian oriented development, is yet another commendable accomplishment.
Needless to mention its achievements in the technology arena!
As with achievements mentioned above such as rural poverty eradication, there is Shalom despite war like atmosphere.
Israel story is an eye opener. We often are not ready to realize the potentials that are bestowed upon us. We criticize God and everyone for the situation and environment and social system etc for our plight.
God has chosen us to make a difference, wherever he has placed us.
We are all God’s chosen and selected people. But rising to the challenge as a chosen people is a painful commitment, involves sacrifices, as journey to Canan won’t be smooth.
